The sun was shining hot and bright as our guests arrived for our 15th Annual Legacy Picnic, but they were met with refreshing showers of hugs and greetings as they entered the air-conditioned gym. Volunteers served drinks of ice-cold lemonade as residents sang, clapped, waved flags and swayed to the music. They danced with volunteers and laughed as we played balloon volleyball. They were served hot dogs off the grill, fruit, macaroni salad and brownies– and as a special treat, they got to pick from a selection of ice cream novelties fresh off the ice cream truck. Thank you, Mr. iSee!!!!
One of the highlights of the day was when the residents who are military veterans were asked to parade around the gym so that everyone could celebrate them and their service to our country. There was lots of applause from the grateful spectators, and quite a few tears on the faces of the vets. What a privilege it was to honor them!
Thank you! thank you! thank you! to all of the volunteers who teamed together to make this such a special time for our dear friends. Most importantly, you were a part in making the residents feel so very loved. You made this day unforgettable for the residents and staff as you welcomed them with your open arms and hearts!
And last but not least, thank you to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Westlake for opening your doors to so many of “the least of these.” You are gracious hosts and a blessing to many!
